Care instructions – General
- Always clean the product before using it for the first time.
- Always remove the barcode sticker. If you do not do this, the sticker may come off in the dishwasher. This will then leave a sticky residue on the product.
- Use only mild, water-soluble household cleaning products. Check the product information to make sure they are suitable for cleaning plastics.
- Do not use solvents or cleaning products that contain alcohol.
- Do not use corrosive, chemical, or abrasive cleaning products.
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth, chamois, or sponge.
Plastic – transparent
- You can clean transparent plastic with normal household cleaning products.
- Do not use abrasive cleaning products.
- Never use products intended for cleaning glass. Glass cleaners contain solvents!
- Apply the cleaning product diluted with a little water according to how dirty it is.
- Use a soft cloth. Rinse off any remaining detergent with clean water and then towel dry.
- Stubborn stains can be easily removed with commercially available products for cleaning plastic.
- Test the cleaning product on a non-visible part of the item first.
Yes, all Mepal products are completely BPA-free.
The abbreviation BPA stands for Bisphenol-A. Bisphenol-A (BPA) is used in the production of plastic polycarbonate. There are concerns that BPA could be harmful to human health. However, Mepal does not use polycarbonate, and all our products are extensively tested before they are launched onto the market. All Mepal products are certified by independent testing laboratories and comply with EU guidelines.
You may have heard of BPS, which is used as a substitute for BPA. We do not use BPS in our products.
No, none of our products contain bamboo or maize fibres. We have never used these materials. This is because they do not meet our quality standards. They also do not comply with European laws and regulations on materials that come into contact with food.
Articles made from melamine are suitable for use with hot and cold temperatures up to 70ºC . Higher temperatures can also be tolerated for short periods. For example, when filling appropriate items, such as cups, plates, dishes, or (mixing) bowls with hot (not boiling!) liquids. Melamine products are unfortunately not microwaveable. They should also not be put in the freezer.
All the silicone parts in our products can be boiled. Our Mepal Mio drinking cups can be boiled in their entirety to ensure that they are hygienically clean. We recommend immersing these cups in boiling water for 5 minutes.
