Product information

Care instructions – General

  • Always clean the product before using it for the first time.
  • Always remove the barcode sticker. If you do not do this, the sticker may come off in the dishwasher. This will then leave a sticky residue on the product.
  • Use only mild, water-soluble household cleaning products. Check the product information to ensure they are suitable for cleaning plastics.
  • Do not use solvents or cleaning products that contain alcohol.
  • Do not use corrosive, chemical, or abrasive cleaning products.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth, chamois, or sponge.

Plastic – transparent

  • You can clean transparent plastic with normal household cleaning products.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaning products.
  • Never use products intended for cleaning glass. Glass cleaners contain solvents!
  • Apply the cleaning product diluted with a little water, depending on the level of dirt.
  • Use a soft cloth. Rinse off any remaining detergent with clean water and then dry with a towel.
  • Stubborn stains can be easily removed with commercially available products for cleaning plastic.
  • Test the cleaning product on a non-visible part of the item first.

Yes, all Mepal products are completely BPA-free.

The abbreviation BPA stands for Bisphenol-A. Bisphenol-A (BPA) is used in the production of plastic polycarbonate, a substance suspected of being harmful to health. However, Mepal does not use polycarbonate and ensures that all our products are thoroughly tested before they are released to the market. All products are certified by independent testing laboratories and comply with EU regulations.

You may have recently read about the BPA replacement, BPS, but this substance is also not used in our products.

No, none of our products contain bamboo or corn fibres. We have never used them, as they do not meet our quality standards or the European laws and regulations on materials regarding food contact materials.

Articles made from melamine are suitable for use with hot and cold temperatures up to 70ºC . Higher temperatures can also be tolerated for short periods. For example, when filling appropriate items, such as cups, plates, dishes, or (mixing) bowls with hot (not boiling!) liquids. Melamine products are not microwave safe and cannot be put in the freezer.

Yes, we use melamine in some of our products. We do this because it is an incredibly strong material and lightweight, making it easy for you to take anywhere and durable enough to withstand bumps and knocks.

A photo or render of Mepal products is taken in a studio. This means that colour variations may occur on the website due to a combination of the lighting used, the nature of the material, and the shape of the product. Additionally, the colour and light settings of your screen may affect how a colour appears on the website.

If you are unsure about the representation of a particular colour of a product and would like more information, please contact us

All the silicone parts in our products can be boiled. Our Mepal Mio drinking cups can be boiled in their entirety to ensure that they are hygienically clean. We recommend immersing these cups in boiling water for 5 minutes.
